Recordings

From major classics to some hard-to-find gems, Marin has been busy with new recordings.

Last year she released a critically acclaimed recording of Leonard Bernstein's "Mass" with the Baltimore Symphony that earned a Grammy nomination for best classical album. In 2008, the BSO recorded Dvorak's Symphony No. 9, "From the New World," which the BBC Music Magazine nominated for best new classical CD of the year. Other recent releases include “Nixon in China” and works by Harris, Copland, and Barber.

Marin Alsop leads a vigorous new recording of John Adams's Nixon in China that affirms the opera's status as a modern classic.

The Bernstein Project

Artistic Director Marin Alsop curates a season-long project celebrating the great icon of 20th-century music making, Leonard Bernstein, including more than 30 performances, talks and workshops. Find out more at Southbank Centre.

[Bernstein] was a thinker, teacher, author, television star, provocateur, humanitarian and he was my hero. As with all true mentors, Bernstein taught me much more than a craft. He showed me--and the world--the enormous power of music and how important it is to share it with as much of humanity as is possible. He showed us that classical music is a powerful force that can transform lives as well as inspire and move people and he lived by those principles.

New Bernstein Mass CD Released

This is, handily, the best sung, best played, most intelligently interpreted recording of Mass currently available. Marin Alsop knits the whole ensemble together with infallible insight and verve.

Alsop never has made a finer recording--it's both a tribute to her mentor Leonard Bernstein, as well as to her exceptional talent as an exponent of his music.

Alsop Renews Baltimore Symphony Contract through 2015

Upon signing the contract, Marin Alsop commented,

My work so far with the Baltimore Symphony has been the thrill of a lifetime. Our progress over the past two seasons is the epitome of collaboration. The dedication and talent of the BSO musicians, the business oversight and support from the board, the vision and unbridled energy from our management and staff, and the community’s enthusiasm and imagination for music—it has taken all of these ingredients to bring the BSO to this level of music-making. I cannot imagine leading a more exciting and progressive orchestra.
